Dr. E.R. Kolchin's book, "Differential Algebra & Algebraic Groups" covers the foundations of differential algebra by applying the modern language of commutative ring theory, Galois theory, and algebraic geometry to differential ring and fields. His book is difficult to read, since there are practically no examples in it that the novice can handle. Nevertheless, the book has many exercises, which an expert in the field can handle. Kolchin makes every theorem as strong as possible. He generalizes as far as possible other well-known theorem, such as linear dependence if and only if the Wronskian vanishes. There are no errors in the book (as far as the reader can tell). It is an important reference book for those pursuing this difficult subject.
